What is Transitions?
A program operated by Tri-County Educational Service Center funded by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services using Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth funds.
- A program that serves both In-School and Out-of-School youth.
- Not an entitlement program
- An "Income Based"“ eligibility” program
GOAL
To assist youth, who face serious barriers, to successfully transition to self-sufficient adulthood by improving work readiness skills and basic skills. Youth are then better prepared to enter, and stay in, the workforce (having a job that pays more than minimum wage), obtain a high school diploma or GED, and enter higher education (college or adult education classes), or advanced training (military or trade school).
To provide linkage and referral to all eligible youth ages 14 – 21.
WIOA ELEMENTS (Services available):
Eligible youth, who enroll in the program, may be able to participate in some of the following services. Each Individual Service Plan is unique to an individual youth’s needs, and is completed 1 on 1 with a Transitions Coordinator.
Transitions Plus, in cooperation with sponsoring worksites provides:
- Paid and unpaid work experience
- Summer employment opportunity that links employment with academic and occupational skills.
Both of these are designed to assist youth with work readiness skills and are temporary.
Transitions Plus also provides:
- Leadership development opportunities
- Supportive services
- Adult mentoring
- Follow-up services for at least one year after youth exits from the program.
Transitions Plus also assists in linking youth with the following services:
- Tutoring, study skills, and drop-out prevention strategies
- Alternative Secondary School Services and GED classes for youth who have dropped out of school
- Occupational Skills Training
- Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling
